“I hope this country fails!” infers Key Republican in video.

March 2nd, 2009

Take a look at this. It’s from Think Progress and really, absolutely beyond belief:

He tries to backtrack on his statement, but it’s pretty clear it’s his knee-jerk reaction to the question. The way he truly feels about Obama and this country deep down. Tomorrow, he’ll try to tell us this was taken out of context, but we know better. Lets make sure that talking point doesn’t stick this time.

This pretty much sums up the attitude of the Republican party. Sure, they’ll try to sugar coat it when they show up on CNN or the Sunday talk shows, but what you see here is the gut reaction of an angry, self-centered prick who doesn’t give a damn about you, your job, your family or your country. It is all about their party over and above everything else.

Seeing this video just makes me angry. We’ve spent years with this party, a party that has ridiculed the children of Presidents they didn’t like, a party that’s stood behind Wall Street’s crooks from Michael Milken to today’s morally corrupt bunch. We’ve watched a slight majority - a scared, uninformed group of Americans - put these people in power without really knowing what they were about.

I don’t think I’m making too much of this. This guy - and those like him who can’t seem to control their disdain for everyone who is not part of the privileged and the ideologically similar - is NOT what we want representing us in Washington.

Santorum has been a boil on the ass of this country for a long time. Please get rid of him. Let him know that his version of America is not even close to what the real America is about. Let him and those like him enter old age angry and bitter that the country never listened to them and followed their path. They may think they were our salvation. We know better.

What’s wrong with the Republican’s is more than “Branding.”

February 26th, 2009

From The Wall Street Journal:

“We have a tougher job than our friends across the aisle. They’ve been offering Americans a free lunch for the last 80 years, rather successfully,” he told reporters at a lunch hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. “Those of us that believe in a smaller, more accountable government, we have a tougher time making our principles relevant to the American people. But it’s our challenge, and we’ve got to do it.”

With Republicans out of power on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue, Boehner summed up the question facing the GOP as: “How do we take our principles and develop policies that relate to a broader cross-section of America?”

The problem Mr. Boehner and the Republicans are having isn’t simply a case of branding. The country KNOWS your brand. We rejected it. Heck, according to Utah Republican Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. in this same article, even your own PARTY rejects it:

I don’t listen or read whatever it is they say because it is inconsequential–completely.

and, according to The New Republic, it’s a dance we’ve all seen before:

The Republican Party has been using a grab-bag of strategies to counter Obama’s policies over the past month. They rail against the stimulus package for its (supposed) pork. They hammer home their points with gimmicky videos and props. They speak in warrior rhetoric and revel in heroic, fighting-man stunts. But if there is one strand running through all these strategies, it is that they evoke a discomfiting feeling of deja vu. We’ve seen this stuff before: The GOP is currently reliving John McCain’s presidential campaign. The return to the strategies of their fallen candidate may be the saddest illustration of the current state of the party.

Republicans are a long way from mainstream. I hope they stay that way.

Will these Republican obstructionists ever shut the hell up?

From CNN:

Though they support some federal action to help their states recover from the recession, several Republican governors said Sunday they plan to turn down a portion of what’s offered in the stimulus bill that President Obama signed last week.

“If we were to take the unemployment reform package that they have, it would cause us to raise taxes on employment when the money runs out — and the money will run out in a couple of years,” Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.

At issue is a portion of the unemployment assistance stipulated by the stimulus bill, which provides federal dollars to expand unemployment insurance in the states. In exchange for accepting that, states would have to expand the number of people who are given jobless benefits.

Once again, we have Republicans playing politics with our lives in the worst economy imaginable. Do they have any sense of proportion - at all? Are their petty, failed principles worth sacrificing the livelihood and survival of the people they’ve been hired to represent? I guess so.

I suppose their republican ideals - those ideals they were so quick to put aside when George Bush rolled his pork barrel into their states and let them pile on - are worth destroying lives for now that democrats are in office. Sure, they’ll try to make it seem like this is about more than their need to control the conversation and the legislation, but it’s not. It’s a temper tantrum - one that will cost many of us a great deal.

It cannot be emphasised enough that these people have squandered our futures with their dismal decisions. No one seems to realize that bad decisions have consequences. These people should learn this, but somehow it seems beyond that capability. Instead, they’ll spend their time (on your tax dollars) souring the conversation with partisan garbage that is largely opinion with nothing of fact to back it up. Besides, ask yourself this - when have these people been right about anything in the last decade? Any answers? Didn’t think so.

What they will do is turn down the unemployment provision and, when their state has more unemployed than employed, they will claim it’s due to the failure of the stimulus. Always blaming someone, this lot. Pathetic and unworthy of the offices they hold.

Bush White House Emails: Obama Missteps.

February 21st, 2009

From AP and Huffington Post:

The Obama administration, siding with former President George W. Bush, is trying to kill a lawsuit that seeks to recover what could be millions of missing White House e-mails.

Two advocacy groups suing the Executive Office of the President say that large amounts of White House e-mail documenting Bush’s eight years in office may still be missing, and that the government must undertake an extensive recovery effort. They expressed disappointment that Obama’s Justice Department is continuing the Bush administration’s bid to get the lawsuits dismissed.

There’s an old phrase: Once you get in a limo, you never get out.

We’ve seen it - the power and position of the office - transform past Presidents who’ve waved off the criminality of both earlier Presidents and members of their administration. There is, I’m sure, an empathy that develops once you’re in the same shoes as that prior person. Nonetheless, like any job, there are duties. The duty of our current President is to perform his job lawfully - and never disregard criminality elsewhere.

The Bush Administration has been criminal in many ways. Sure, they’ve not been forced to confront it thanks to a Congress and Senate that are comprised of hundreds of the biggest cowards on the planet. But they have committed crimes. It would be a shame to read, 20 years from now when all this has long been aired, that our worst crime we’ve committed as a nation was ignoring their crimes. Had it not been for the subpoena Nixon’s tapes over the length of his Presidency we would be none the wiser as to his methods or crimes. Email is the new tape. It’s important that we make these people accountable for the crimes they’ve committed today so similar crimes in the future will be more difficult (hopefully).

Obama should know better.

Lets blame Barack Obama for everything.

February 20th, 2009

My wife lost her job. During the last three years there have been 8 rounds of layoffs in her firm. This new round came just the other day. While the loss in business was steady through the last few declining years, I think it’s only fair to blame Barack Obama for this. He has been in office for almost a month.

Furthermore, my property and school taxes have risen over the past five years. My state has been receiving less money from the federal government due to the tax cuts. My taxes have risen from $4,800 in 2003 to $7,400 this last year. When I pay my next bill this week, I will blame Barack Obama. He was in office when I received that new statement. It must be his doing.

My stock portfolio had gone from something substantial in 2002 to petty change. I know Barack Obama has only been in office less than a month, but he IS responsible for the plunge of the stock market. The day he took office was the same day I received my Merrill Lynch statement. While it may have gone out into the mail before he took oath, it still must be his fault. Everything is, isn’t it?

My house is worth considerably less than it was in 2005. I know, I know. There’s been no regulation in this market and people with the same amount of petty change to their name that I currently have in my stock portfolio were being approved for loans. It’s true that those loans were sold in group packages to my broker, Merrill Lynch, and were then multiplied many more times as derivatives. It’s also true that George Bush was a great friend of business and felt oversight was unseemly. Still, even though my house went up in value in the last week, I blame Barack Obama. He should have known he was going to be President and everything was going to tank. Shame on him.

That guy who beheaded his wife last week? Well, that’s Barack Obama’s fault. He should have intervened. How dare he hold his head up high after not making some effort to thwart that tragedy.

The hundreds of thousands who’ve died in Iraq. You guessed it. His fault. It’s his responsibility now, so he should bear the responsibility for the entire war, even though he was against it. President Bush couldn’t be responsible. He’s too good a man. As we all know, everything bad that happened to him in the first five years of his Presidency was really Bill Clinton’s fault. The Republican congress and senate with their majorities? Nah. They couldn’t stop it. It was the Democrats who bullied them into this war. At the very least they were complicit since all the evidence showed Saddam has WMD’s.

Got a parking ticket the other day. It’s not my fault I parked facing out in the parking slot instead of in. Damn that Barack Obama.
