Harry Reid’s re-election bid in peril. Serves him right.

From CNN:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is trailing one potential Republican challenger by 10 points in a hypothetical 2010 matchup, a new poll suggests, and he’s not faring much better against another possible opponent.

Reid trails Nevada GOP chairwoman Sue Lowden, 49 percent to 39 percent, according to a Mason-Dixon poll commissioned by the Las Vegas Review-Journal and released Sunday. Reid is also losing by a 48-43 margin in a hypothetical race against another leading candidate for the Republican Senate nomination, businessman Danny Tarkanian.

Although Reid is likely to raise millions and get a helping hand from national Democrats, Nevadans appear to have an overall negative opinion of their senior senator, who doesn’t have much wiggle room to improve his image. Nearly 100 percent of Nevada voters know who Reid is, and 50 percent of them hold an unfavorable view of the Democrat. Just 38 percent have a favorable opinion.

I am a life-long democrat. I want nothing more than for our agenda to be realized in Obama’s administration. Keeping a majority in the Senate is of utmost importance and Mr. Reid is the Majority leader.

Still in all, I would like nothing more than to see this useless loser ejected from his post, embarrassed in the polls and have difficulty getting a job scooping ice cream cones at the Dairy Queen.

Harry Reid, in my opinion, is the main reason we’re having difficulty getting anything passed or, for that matter, winning the arguments we should be winning. He is the weakest Majority Leader we’ve ever had, and my memory goes way back.

He’s sabotaged every proposal, made hollow threats (when he had the vote majority!) and caved in again and again to the Bush administration. Now, with a Democratic President, he’s continued to obstruct.

Fuck this asshole. I would rather lose a seat in the senate than give him anymore chance to screw us over after 2010. If Obama’s Presidency is deemed a failure, it will be on his head.

Sure, I know. The Senate is a tough place to get bills passed. There’s alot of politics you don’t find in Congress, but the question is, at what point, do you expect SOMETHING from those in leadership positions. Bill Frist did a heck of a lot more during his term than this milktoast weakling has done.

It’s tough love, but we democrats have to know when to strong arm. Getting him out is key. Keeping him is suicide for the party. What we need is someone like Alan Grayson to take his spot. Sad that he’s in the wrong house for that.

Democrats have to learn how to be bullies. It’s the only way to fight an opposing party that’s nothing but.

Thank you, Alan Grayson. F*@ck you, Harry Reid.

From CNN:

“What I mean is they have got no plan,” Grayson told Wolf Blitzer. “It’s been 24 hours since I said that. Where is the Republican plan? We’re all waiting to see something that will take care of the pre-existing conditions, to take care of the 40 million Americans who have no coverage at all.

“That’s what I meant when I said that the Republican plan is don’t get sick. And if you do get sick, die quickly.”

That was just the beginning of a bold defense Alan Grayson made on CNN yesterday. Blitzer and the same old tired crew did their best to try and define his words as outrageous, but the American people know better - and this particular Congressman doesn’t mince words.

It’s sad that it had to be refreshing to hear the FIRST PERSON in this debate say what others seem afraid to say - the Republicans priority is not the American people. It will ALWAYS be their business interests - and the insurance companies want this discussion shut down.

Unfortunately, there is one man who’s supposed to be on our side but is helping the other side in every possible way he can.

Harry Reid. I’ll be simple in my rhetoric and make what I feel is a truthful claim here. This man - the inneffectual, weak, sorry excuse for a “leader” - has sunk the public option and in-turn any real reform we might have had in healthcare.

Harry Reid is solely responsible for the failure of the democrats in this debate. No one else. Just him.

Think I’m wrong, Mr. Reid?

Why is it then that you can’t rise to the strength of the position you’ve been given? Ever since the democrats gained the majority several years ago, the democrats in the senate have caved AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN to the wants of the republicans.

We VOTED THE REPUBLICANS OUT! Do you understand this, you stupid, lame fuck? This is the time to push through an agenda the people actually WANT.

Why is it that other senate members are constantly making excuses for your inability to rally your side on any democratically-backed proposition, let alone this one? Why is it you are always blaming the republicans for your inability to get YOUR job done? Bill Frist had no problem doing your job. He got the votes he needed and when he didn’t, he’d ram through legislation and get the President’s signature.

What have you done except complain?

Do you understand that there is no excuse for failure or compromise with this job, in this climate, on this subject - right now? I see you in the news looking the way you’ve always looked - a man who simply wants to hide behind the mechanics of the system, never challenge it, never get angry, never scream. You minimize every discussion with your pathetic, tired demeanor.

If this bill fails to have a public option, THAT will be your legacy. Don’t worry about your next election. You’ll be done - and you’ll bring the party down with you.

There is no excuse for being weak. Just none. What did your dad teach you when you were young, to give in all the time? Take a page from the book of Alan Grayson. That’s what it means to be right and know it. Unfortunately, I doubt you’d recognize that kind of truth even if it shoved a two-by-four up your puny ass.

Charles Atlas kicks sand in Harry Reid’s face. Reid cowers.

July 24th, 2009

There’s quite a difference in the attitude of our two majority leaders. Here’s Pelosi:

Pelosi announced during a news conference on health care reform Wednesday that she had “no question” that Democrats in the House have the votes they need to secure the passage of the bill.
This announcement was a surprise to many, given recent opposition to the bill from the party’s more moderate members who call for drastic changes to provisions thus far set forth by President Obama.

and here’s Harry Reid:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid confirmed today that the Senate will not take a vote on a massive health care overhaul proposal before lawmakers return home for the August recess — meaning a key self-imposed deadline that Congress has been working toward for months will be missed.

“Working with Republicans, one of the things that they asked for … was more time,” Reid said during a press conference. “I don’t think it’s unreasonable.”

Quite a contrast, these two - and while some of the bravado or lack thereof is the result of the balances of votes in each branch, Harry Reid always seems to be lacking in motivation, strength and political will. Reid forever reminds me of the weakling from the Charles Atlas cartoon “The Insult That Made a Man Out Of Mac.” The only difference is Harry doesn’t get angry, doesn’t become strong and doesn’t beat the bully. He just sits there.

As Senate leader, he is the poster child for inaffectual leadership and hollow rhetoric. Personally, I think he’s the most useless politician of the last 25 years and his inability to get ANYTHING done is pissing me off to the point where I’m willing to run against him myself - even though I don’t live in Nevada. Everytime he speaks, the following personality points come through:

• My beliefs and powers of persuasion are not strong enough to win a debate.
• Cave on everything. It’s easier than losing in an actual fight.
• Never embrace a controversial issue.
• Never “own” any issue.
• Show you’re an individual against the President’s suggestions at the expense of everything else. It’s really a form of cowardice, but maybe others will see it differently.

Reid and the Senate democrats are willing to go down in flames by NOT trying to agree with anyone in their party (seemingly a badge of honor for these people) and sacrificing the larger good so they can hold onto their small, sometimes insignificant piece of the puzzle. Reid has no sway with the Blue Dogs, all of whom should be shot as they are rabid hounds.

Healthcare reform MUST pass and, in the end, Reid is the roadblock - a man without one ounce of courage when it comes to the good fight, but can bark aggressively behind the glass as long as he knows it will result in absolutely nothing.

Harry Reid needs to shut up and do his job.

July 16th, 2009

From Huffington Post:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) sharply criticized a national advertising campaign partly directed at centrist Democrats wavering on health care reform on Thursday.

Reid said the he was unaware of the campaign targeting Democrats but that it was a “waste of money.”

The ads are funded by a wing of the Democratic National Committee, Organizing for America, controlled largely by President Obama.

Asked to elaborate, Reid added, “It’s a waste of money to have Democrats running ads against Democrats.”

Don’t like the ads? Well, I have an idea for you, Reid, - you stupid, useless, ineffectual fuck - get the votes you need for healthcare. You have that, the White House (and, for that matter, the majority of the American people) won’t have to strong arm you about shit you should already be forceful on.

You see, Harry, the biggest problem as always is you. You have proven yourself in the last three years of Democrat majorities to be nothing more than a company man for the Senate. You would rather make compromises and deals behind the scenes, complain of insurmountable obstacles to votes or just plain throw your hands up in the air and claim sabotage than DO YOU JOB.

Remember Tom Delay? Asshole, right? He was - but he got the votes he needed by pushing the hell out of people and, when that didn’t work, he threatened them. Sure, he probably put more pork into a million bills than you guys have, but I hardly think any of you are pure. Bill Frist? Hell, he did your job better than you and ALSO got the votes he needed. The bottom line is that NOTHING gets done in the Senate - and you are to blame. Nobody else. Don’t look around and call the small minority of republicans the culprits. You have division in your ranks (blue dogs, etc.) and are unable to corral them for the right reasons.

Furthermore, you need to OWN some issues, not be a fucking pussy and water down bills so some of the useless republicans can vote for them. Fuck them. They fucked all of us for eight years. The American majority doesn’t care about them, only results - and you’re falling flat on that. Also, don’t give me this guff that the democrats don’t fall in line like the republicans do. It doesn’t wash. Your job is to get them to.

Simply put, if you can’t get the votes for healthcare reform, the senators with the courage to give their votes easily, those who actually care about the rest of us, ought to take you out behind the senate chambers and beat and kick you DeNiro-style.

Pelosi’s “scorched earth” strategy for republican cowards.

March 7th, 2009

From CNN Senior Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Senate and House Democratic leaders had what two sources describe as an extremely heated meeting Thursday night about the spending bill.

Once Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid figured out he did not have the votes to pass it, he and Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin went to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office to propose passing a five day resolution to keep the government running, and come back to the $410 billion spending bill next week.

The two Democratic sources say Pelosi reacted with “anger,” arguing that Democrats should instead adopt a “scorched earth” strategy and simply fund the government at last year’s levels through the end of the year. Her point, according to the sources, was that even though Republicans have been slamming the bill as wasteful spending, many of them really have an interest in seeing it passed. This would call their bluff.

Never a big fan of Nancy Pelosi, but THIS is the kind of aggressiveness I can appreciate. The Republicans feel they now have a “brand” in opposing everything the democrats put on the table. Easy brand, I say. It allows them to cowardly stand aside, even on bills that pass through without them, and reap the financial benefits for their states when all is behind them. If something gets passed that does some public good, they can claim they took the money and helped in that cause.

If it goes down in flames, they bear no responsibility. In my opinion, this is the kind of politics we need to leave behind as 2009 starts. I’m happy Pelosi sees the benefit in rolling up her sleeves and showing her fists. I just hope she’s willing to give that punch when the time comes. I don’t expect anything from Harry Reid. This man’s a former boxer apparently, but you’d never know it from his performance as the Senate majority leader. How many times has this fool come to Pelosi with the same news that he hasn’t got the votes? If Tom Delay, that scum, could muster enough republican votes to push through the conservative agenda for several years, this idiot should be able to do the same with the majority he now holds.

If he can’t, he needs to step down. We have no use for him.

Aren’t there any new ideas in the Stimulus?

February 7th, 2009
“Sacred cows” is Nelson’s polite phrase for earmark-like projects, sacred to members, like $400 million for sexually transmitted disease prevention, $350 million for computers at the USDA, $14 million for cyber security and millions for NASA research.

“They’re good programs, but they just don’t belong, in our opinion, in a stimulus package,” Nelson told FOX News, saying that, instead, members should look to the next spending bill in the pipeline, an omnibus appropriations bill that funds federal agencies for 2009, a measure that was postponed from last year.

A week ago, the republicans put out a list of what they considered waste in the stimulus bill. I’ve tried reading the bill approved by the house and found it daunting. What stood out most was not the individual programs proposed (nothing is revolutionary), but the dollar amounts applied to them. There are oversight committees that are getting anywhere from $350,000,000 to $500,000,000 for management costs alone. Now, some of these programs are active until 2011, but consider that on the low end - 2 years, $350,000,000. That’s a budget of $116,000,000 a year for staff and office space. If my company had revenue like that, I’d be living in a mansion on the ocean.

Very likely, these programs will have staffs of maybe 50, which means there will be an enormous amount of waste. Beyond that, most of your congress people and senators will not even read this 650 something page document, so all they will be concerning themselves with is the expenditures to their state.

Personally, I think it is the duty of everyone of our representatives to read through this document thoroughly and understand the broader scope of what is needed. It’s fine to know the small details, but it must be within the context of a bigger picture.

There is also alot of garbage in this package and it leaves me shaking my head as to why these people can’t come up with anything NEW. With the kind of money being thrown around, you’d think they could hire the best minds to find the most unique ideas on how to stimulate this economy beyond the standards proposed in Roosevelts New Deal and the obligatory tax cuts.

Harry Reid is the biggest roadblock to our country’s success.

February 1st, 2009

“I’m more Mike Mansfield. I’m not LBJ — I don’t twist arms.” - Senator Harry Reid

Wrong response.

Obama is doing his best to bring a new tone to Washington, and I respect that. I think everyone out there agrees that tone is just a part of it - this system that rewards those with the deepest pockets to push change rather than those with the most human of ideas is corrupt and broken. Nothing short of an internal revolution would change that, and despite the times, people have no energy of stomach for such an uprising.

But Harry Reid is part of the problem. It’s a mystery to me how this milk-toast, ineffectual man can command anyone to do anything. He begins a poltical debate by making bold statements about being immovable, and then quietly (well, sometimes not so quietly) folds under the smallest of pressure. I would rather see him and the party go up in flames by standing boldly behind a bill rather than this pathetic giving in that happens with them every single time.

I’ve always felt that Obama’s biggest roadblock in office would be him and Pelosi. Getting them in line and forcing them to be held accountable for bad politics, no matter what the leaning might be, is the first step in creating the kind of government we need, rather than the one we have.

Both should be voted out of their positions, but it is unlikely that will happen anytime soon. Suggestions?
